Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse

I’ve had a few months to play around with my Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse so I decided to write up a little review. There is some good and some bad with this mouse so here it is. The Good: The first and most obvious feature of this mouse is the flat design. It is flat read more »

Motorola MBP33 Baby Monitor

After many drops, my old baby monitor finally kicked the bucket. My wife took the liberty of searching through the many makes and models across the interwebs. She finally decided on the Motorola MBP33 Baby Monitor. This unit had everything the old monitor had plus a few more. Pros It covers all the basics with read more »

QS458 Surveillance DVR

I’ve been struggling for years trying to get my security cameras to work with Zoneminder. Zoneminder is an opensource/free linux software for security cameras, but sometimes you get what you pay for. I just could never get my either of my cheap 4 port PCI video cards to work completely with the software. I finally read more »

MSSQL 2012: Attaching a file and rebuilding the log

For some reason my new install of SQL 2012 didn’t like my MS SQL 2008R2 log files. After fussing around with the attach wizard and not getting anywhere I finally found a few internet references to ATTACH_REBUILD_LOG. Most of the examples out on the interweb only had a single file but my situation called for read more »

Fixing an Invisible Fence

TechEd Day 267

It obviously hasn’t been 267 days, but it sure feels like it. Between all the sessions and the nightly activities I feel like I haven’t sat down for more than 2 seconds all week. A couple notable sessions today were about SQL server and one about sustainable environments. http://northamerica.msteched.com/topic/details/2012/PRC01 http://northamerica.msteched.com/topic/details/2012/AAP303 There are a lot of read more »

TechEd Day 3

There wasn’t a keynote today so it was classes all day long. I went to a couple good ones: big data with hadoop and one about mono. It interesting to see MS pump resources into something like Hadoop. The new SQL server is going to have a connector so getting data should be pretty seamless. read more »

TechEd Day 1

Glorious TechEd day one has passed and it was pretty fun. The scale of this event is pretty amazing. The convention center seems like an endless sea of nerds for most of the day. The vendor section is a mess of flashing lights and circling banners. The food area is like a well designed military read more »

TechEd Day 2

Keynote was all about Windows 8 interface, enterprise features, and development. Some interesting stuff was in here, but again nothing ground breaking. It seemed like just a rehash of information that is already out there. At the bottom there is a pic of all the people leaving the keynote. It still amazes me… I got read more »
