If Boxee wasn’t already cool enough, the Boxee team just released an Ipad app. Previous to this I was stuck with with the limited iphone app which was just a glorified remote. This new ipad app takes it a new level. It aggregates social content, allows you to stream from a PC, and lets you send content to any Boxee.
I’m not too excited about the social functionality. My friends don’t really post much compelling content that I would enjoy watching all night… sorry. The streaming and content pushing is the real interesting addition. Unfortunately 2 months ago I purchased another streaming solution, Air Video, that now is completely worthless.
The streaming works as advertised. It streams all the content that you come to expect from Boxee’s wide variety of codecs. It is smooth and high quality even over a wireless connection. Just install a small app on a computer and any content can be exposed.
As an added bonus you can “send” any content to a Boxee Box hooked up to a TV. When playing any content on the iPad it takes 2 clicks in the upper right corner of the video to immediately send it over to tv. It is almost magically how seamless the whole operation works. The content stops playing on the Ipad and starts playing right up where you left off on your tv. It is pretty damn cool.
